Kawther Hersi Musa earned her Master’s Degree in Health Science specializing in Human Nutrition, and holds a Bachelor’s degree (Honors) in Food and Nutrition, and Diploma in Pharmaceutical Drugs. Kawther is a registered Community Health worker in the State of Ohio.

Kawther has worked as a Clinical Nutritionist at Al Bahri Teaching Hospital in Khartoum, Sudan and is working for the establishment of the National Institute of Health in Somalia. In 2014, she worked for the Health International Organization as the Health and Nutrition Program Coordinator in Nairobi Kenya.

Since last year, Kawther has been working with SomaliCAN as a CelebrateOne Community Connector. CelebrateOne is a broad coalition of public and private sector organizations, academic institutions and nonprofits created by the City of Columbus to reduce infant mortality. As a Community Health Worker, she did outreach with pregnant moms and their families. She recognized social determinants of health and addressed them directly with the families.

This year Kawther is a Nisonger Center Diversity Fellow at the Ohio State University. On this project Nisonger Center partners with SomaliCAN, a community-based organization that works to change the lives of New Americans through community development and social change initiatives to facilitate the economic, social and political integration of the Somali community and other immigrant groups in Ohio.
