Center for Disabilities and Development
University of Iowa, IA

Julia Ganda is a first-year student in the Master of Social Work program at the University of Iowa. Her passion for the field and working with people with disabilities stems from her experience working as a Direct Care Staff at local agencies that provide services/resources to individuals with disabilities. Through this Julia decided that Social work was the way for her to go. She currently works as a Youth Advocate for a program called G! World, that fosters growth through cultural and gender responsive, trauma-informed programming for minority girls in middle and high school, through educating, empowering and leadership. Julia is passionate about advocating for marginalized communities and being a resource to people in her community. Through her fellowship at Iowa’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at the Center for Disabilities and Development, she aims to focus on developing ways to educate, raise awareness and address disabilities among minorities groups around Iowa through cultural competency implementation.
