Carolina De La Mateo Rosa is a second year student pursuing a masters in public health at the University of Minnesota. She was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to Florida as a child. She has a younger sister born with a chronic disorder that has led to disability, and that inspired her to work in public health and disability work. Growing up in a Spanish-speaking household, she experienced and recognizes the challenges that immigrant families experience navigating the American system, so she hopes that the Institute on Community Integration (ICI) Diversity Fellowship gives her additional tools to be a better advocate for people with disabilities and make spaces more inclusive for all.
