Summary:The Langston University Rehabilitation Research and Training Center will use the study findings to highlight the visibility of high-quality research created through MSI-based research centers. The LU-RRTC will also use study findings to make recommendations to policymakers, NIDILRR, and other federal research funding agencies, and other stakeholders on how to address identified challenges.

Summary:This webinar will: (1) introduce the Embedding Project to the members of the NTDC; and (2) share the array of resources and tools designed to build the capacity of network programs to embed widely accepted Cultural and Linguistic Competence (CLC) policies, structures, and practices across the four UCEDD core functions of interdisciplinary pre-service training and continuing education, community services, research and evaluation, and information dissemination.

Nothing About Us Without Us: Including People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Research

Cultural Competency in Developmental Monitoring

Summary:Jennifer Hall-Lande, Psychologist and Research Associate at the Institute on Community Integration, University of Minnesota will present on how the Minnesota Act Early Team and MN Department of Health developed the "Minnesota Act Early Delegate Project". The MN Act Early Delegate Project developed a network of parent community leaders in diverse communities to engage families around the importance of regular parent developmental monitoring, early developmental screening, and early identification of developmental delays and disabilities using "Learn the Signs. Act Early." materials.

Summary:Join us for part one of a three-part webinar series on policy issues and health disparities among adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD). This webinar will highlight the AUCD-UIC RRTCDD brief, Racial and Ethnic Disparities among Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. We will review research highlights and findings of an analysis of Medical Expenditure Panel Survey and National Health Interview Survey data. In addition, we will discuss the policy implications of the findings and opportunities for change.

Parents Taking Action: Empowering Latina Mothers of Children with ASD
Details
Summary:Latinos represent the fastest growing population in the US, and Latino children are one of the fastest growing ASD populations. Despite this growth, they are one of the most underserved groups with respect to diagnostic services, health care, and specialty autism services. Dr. Sandy Magana will discuss the development of a culturally-based approach to addressing informational needs of Latino parents, which is essential in order to better support their children with ASD. She will present preliminary findings of a randomized controlled trial that is underway to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed model.
