Katherine Suarez is a UCEDD Diversity Fellow and a graduate research assistant in the Center for Leadership in Disability (CLD) at Georgia State University (GSU). She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Public Health with a focus on Health Promotion and Behavior at GSU.

Through the fellowship, Katherine has become certified as a Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) instructor and she will begin providing that training in English and Spanish in the Metro Atlanta areas. Also through this fellowship, Katherine works on the Latino Community of Practice (LCPR) focusing on engagement with Hispanic communities in Georgia. Her work on the LCPR involves scheduling health fairs and events that take place in the community and partnering with organizations in the Atlanta area that also engage with Hispanic communities. Finally, Katherine will help facilitate positive behavior support training for Spanish-speaking families with young children displaying challenging behaviors.
